Fragrant Orchid

Fragrant Orchids are widespread in the Burren in mid-Summer, July to August. They have a tall flower spike with many individual flowers on it, seen here in close up. The fragrance is delicate, like that of a carnation, and you have to be down on your knees quite close to the plant to smell it. Fragrant orchid is a top note in our Ilaun perfume, but we don't pick Burren orchids to make it.
