Fly Orchid

Fly Orchids are pretty hard to find in the Burren. They're scarce and hard to see. So when I nearly stood on this one during a late evening hike on a mountain top near the Perfumery I took a lot of photographs of it. Then I hiked back up there twice in the next two days with all my camera gear to take more pictures. Arduous, but worth it. A week later I found another fly orchid growing within a hundred metres of our front door... A flower that impersonates a fly may not be to everyone's taste but they are amazing to look at. Evolution rocks.
