Hawthorn Berries

This hawthorn tree was photographed in late October 2004 at the entrance to the Perfumery. Hawthorn berries or haws as they properly called are an important winter food supply for the many birds in the Burren. For humans the bright red haws against the grey limetone and grey bark are an important source of winter cheer as the days grow shorter.
