Slieve Carran forms the massive North Eastern corner of the Burren. It is 1073 feet high and surmounted by a large cairn, easily visible from Galway. On its Eastern side there is a large cliff at the foot of which is an old church. The church is on the site of an even earlier hemitage and there is a holy well there. Hen harriers are often to be seen in the area, and at the foot of the cliff are large ash trees amidst the hazel scrub. Well worth a wander.
