Lichen - Cladonia Impexa

Every now and again as you pootle through the Burren you come upon amazing spongy masses of this beautiful lichen growing intertwined through heather or (here) thyme. The mats can be quite big and if you get done to ground level the delicacy and the colouring are amazing. The Burren has many interesting lichens. I'm told that lichens are a good indicator of air quality. if so, the Burren must be particularly pure because there's lichen everywhere.
