Cows in Carron Turlough

When the Burren turloughs dry out in the summer their rich, moist beds support a thick growth of grass, excellent for grazing. Grazng animals are an integral part of the Burren's ecosystem. Without grazing to keep the grasses short, orchids and other flowering plants would be unable to compete and the landscape would become a sterile green wasteland. Photographed late July 2004.
